When The Bottom Falls Out

from American Artifact by Brothers Lazaroff

/

lyrics

A parachute upon the back, a twinkle in the eye.
The customary wave to the floats as they glide by.
Propped up by wind, and a string pulled from the sky.
Don’t wonder where you’re headed, don’t even wonder why.

(Chorus):
I heard that it was coming, heard what it was all about.
Just no point in runnin’ when the bottom falls out.

It was early in the evening, the phone rang loud and hard.
A blistering rattle that slowly began to jar.
The voice shot cross the wire, I raised my arm to guard.
You block whatever debris you can but somehow you still get scarred.

(Chorus)

A knock upon the door, triggers cascading drops of thought.
Fumble for the checkbook, but some things can’t be bought.
The ground shakes underneath, all gets left for knoght.
And as long as you don’t think you can, you never will get caught.

(Chorus)

Shake off my coat pull my shoulders back.
A happenings going down just across the tracks.
Rooster crows at dawn, that still remains a fact.
To be woken from our slumber feels like an attack.

(Chorus)
