From the front lines I’ve heard you call, Your soft voice saying you’ve seen it all. And you’ve lost all hope, it’s just gone. Everything has slipped into the great beyond. You’re trying to say it strong and hard, But how many times can you play that card? Now we’re only looking for the best way out, And to give up the search for what it’s all about. (Chorus): I’ll see you through, I’ll see you through, I’ll see you through. The fragrant flower passed beneath your nose. You tried to say the words but the words just froze. And when we think that it’s the end, Another twist comes around the bend Over and over it’s an ageless dance. At least some folks still believe in romance. With roses and chocolates and hearts so red. And covers pulled back on a silk sheet bed. (Chorus) Dip a toe into the tepid water, And think back to when you were the daughter. And the world was fresh and the world was new. And every fading star stared right back at you. So play the game and don’t give no flack. For the audience still comes dressed in black. And the tunnel spins with wind and light. As the beginning slowly comes into sight. (Chorus)
2.
Come here, where I can see your eyes, come here. Come here it’s been too long. Come here, amongst the buzzing flies, come here. Come here it’s been too long. Only so much I can take, must be a mistake. Only so much I can take. (Chorus): I’m an American artifact. American artifact. American artifact. American artifact. Come here, the lens is crackin’, come here, Come here it’s been too long. Come here, the branch is saggin’, come here. Come here it’s been too long. I see you in my dreams, tell me what’s that supposed to mean. I see you in my dreams. (Chorus)

A parachute upon the back, a twinkle in the eye. The customary wave to the floats as they glide by. Propped up by wind, and a string pulled from the sky. Don’t wonder where you’re headed, don’t even wonder why. (Chorus): I heard that it was coming, heard what it was all about. Just no point in runnin’ when the bottom falls out. It was early in the evening, the phone rang loud and hard. A blistering rattle that slowly began to jar. The voice shot cross the wire, I raised my arm to guard. You block whatever debris you can but somehow you still get scarred. (Chorus) A knock upon the door, triggers cascading drops of thought. Fumble for the checkbook, but some things can’t be bought. The ground shakes underneath, all gets left for knoght. And as long as you don’t think you can, you never will get caught. (Chorus) Shake off my coat pull my shoulders back. A happenings going down just across the tracks. Rooster crows at dawn, that still remains a fact. To be woken from our slumber feels like an attack. (Chorus)
4.
(Chorus): Ain’t gonna let you in. I know where you’ve been. All your dirty ways. All those games you play. Your head’s filled with words. But you don’t walk the walk. You’ve got it all backwards. You just talk the talk. (Chorus) Explain all you can. It’s just a waste of air. Nothing went by your plan. And no one seems to care (Chorus) You just keep on trying. To fill up every moment. As long as you’re not pausing. You don’t have to think about it. (Chorus) You say no one hears. You wrote the manifesto. Been years since the cheers. But you still won’t go. (Chorus)

Dreamin' 05:59
Dreamin’, dreamin’ the whole day through. Dreamin’, got nothing else to do. Dreamin’ for you, hope you’re dreamin’ for me too. Look out from the vista, see the colors coalesce. Always where your night time pearls, and that favorite dress. Can’t count how many times I’ve heard you say, California is the best. Ride along the edge, feel the comfort of the hum. Shout it from the hilltop, always pound the drum. Say it any way you please, be it smart or be it dumb. Dreamin’, dreamin’ the whole day through. Dreamin’, got nothing else to do. Dreamin’ for you, hope you’re dreamin’ for me too.

I’m not singing, I’m not laughing. Can’t celebrate in this domain. The candles blew out while we were numbing the pain. Smokes descending, flames climbing. Before our eyes, we see it plain. But we’ve gone blind from just numbing the pain. My tears fall down like rain. Twilight sets in. Tried not too complain. No one hears at all. Waters rising, babies crying. Still some sit back and sip champagne. And toast the spoils from us numbing the pain. I wish I could explain. And scrub it all away. Wash away the stain. Slowly put it down. Pressure’s mounting, moments building. Hold your breath and watch in vain. As things explode while we’re numbing the pain.

Pretty Eyes 03:56
Pretty eyes, A good heart. Quite charming, Lost in the art. So many people, Have beautiful eyes. Light starts to fade, Heat starts to rise. Tried to meet you, The timing was shot. Knew you’d make it, With me or not. Winter is coming, Creeks gonna freeze. Hoping I won’t, Have to say please. Sometime I think, I should do something completely different. Like live in New York, Or close to the water.

Always trying to drive me to the rock, I will not shatter it. With false thoughts and their words like fire, I will not shatter it. (Chorus): Let it be love, let it be love. Let it be love, let it be love. No romance in your hardened heart, it’s your choice to make. Go on down, down to the water, it’s your choice to make. (Chorus) I don’t cast the dust upon your shoulder, you got to move. Always movin’, movin’ a little bit closer, you got to move. (Chorus) Sometimes you ask, is it over, what should I say? Don’t know how the wind got so much colder, what should I say? (Chorus )

Upper Hand 03:48
I don't want the upper hand, And I never have. Silence has taken over, And I feel what's come. I can see you sleeping in, The headlines are in red again. TV on with the sound turned off, Some old record playing soft. Stream running out in the wood, Past the spot where we once stood.. I slowed down but didn’t stop, And you flew on, you flew on. I don't want the upper hand, And I never have. Silence has taken over, And I feel what's come.

Sand on the floor rust in the sink, But in the morning there’s scrambled eggs. I know you’ll make it she said with a wink, As she leaned back and crossed her legs. Crash of the water, scent in the air, You’re a million miles astray. Sign on the wall says, ”have no cares”, (Chorus): How long you gonna stay, how long you gonna stay How long you gonna stay away? Scrap heap at the back door, dog ain’t been feed, But the flowers glow in the dark. This trance can hit you upside the head. So keep your senses sharp. Cry if you have to, it hits as it will. Runs the course all the way, Do it until, you get your fill. (Chorus) Sun sets on the water, demons appear, We wander through the night. Dawn always breaks from off in the clear. In comes the cool fresh light. Old man with a bandana smiles from afar, He always wants to play. Got to change out the strings on this old guitar. (Chorus)

If the creeks don’t rise, I’ll be there in the morning, If the creeks don’t rise, I’ll be there exposed. If the creeks don’t rise, don’t send out a warning. I’ll do what I can, but G-d only knows. If the creeks don’t rise, they’ll be no interrogations, If the creeks don’t rise, no questions to ask. If the creeks don’t rise, there’s no explanation. Just count your blessings and get back to the task. If the creeks don’t rise, I’ll love you forever. If the creeks don’t rise, I’m yours ‘til the end. If the creeks don’t rise, don’t pull the lever. No need to panic no need to defend. If the creeks don’t rise, they may rise tomorrow. If the creeks don’t rise, breathe in the air. If the creeks don’t rise, we’ll hold back the sorrow. And ride all the rides at the county fair. If the creeks don’t rise, they will someday. If the creeks don’t rise, it’s luck of the draw. If the creeks don’t rise, shout hip-hip hurray. But we’ll still have to suffer underneath the law.

Haven’t walked a mile if I haven’t walked a few with you. Haven’t walked a mile if I haven’t walked a few with you. Haven’t Walked a mile if I haven’t walked a few with you. When I’ve been thinkin’ about gettin’ home. Texas ain’t so pretty when they have dried up all the land. The trees are to damn woody, and the mesquites have got out of hand. Texas ain’t so pretty when they have dried up all the land. But, still I’ve been thinkin’ about gettin’ home. I can't run a plow, and I’m not welcome anywhere. I push my hands into the dirt, lord, they always come up bare. I don’t know what it is that makes me think something could be there. But, still I’ve been thinkin’ about gettin’ home. Haven’t walked a mile, if I haven’t walked a few with you. Haven’t walked a mile, if I haven’t walked a few with you. Haven’t walked a mile, if I haven’t walked a few with you. When I’ve been thinkin’ about gettin’ home.

Lament 08:48
Lament the past, but everything’s still moving fast. No need to think about things you’ve said or done or even thoughts you once had. Move on or at least move beyond it. Whatever you do just keep moving. Spend so much time at a crazy pace, only to look down and realize you’re a spinning top, still in the same place. But that’s ok at least you saw it, better than not seeing it at all. The funny thing is when things are really spinning, it feels like you're in slow motion…you can pick out everything. Dust on the curtains, shadows and the way light reflects. Tones and sounds you’d swear you were hearing for the first time. But you’re not, you just never paid attention. And despite the implications of that phrase, “paying attention”, it doesn’t cost a dime. In fact it pays out like the loosest slot machine in the world. Huge jackpots you can cash in whenever and wherever you want in so many various ways.
